Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In spite of the challenges of teaching three different subjects (Math, Science, and Social Studies) and transitioning to distance learning, I enjoyed teaching my sixth-grade students. I found their curiosity and creativity in expressing their ideas and thoughts refreshing. Prior to this school year, I was teaching about 25 students, but now I am impacting more students on a daily basis, which makes my job more rewarding.

Currently, I teach Math, Science, and Social Studies to about 130 middle school students, including students with special needs and in the ESOL program.

As a result of the pandemic, schools were forced to transition to distance learning which impacted my students greatly. Teaching remotely definitely created obstacles for my students and meeting their needs required incorporating different techniques in my instructional delivery. Coming up with creative approaches to address my students' needs made my job challenging, but worthwhile. Working with students during this pandemic has taught me the importance of being flexible and receptive to changes.

My Project

Moving towards this school year, I realize that I need a reliable color printer to use both at home and when we return back to the classroom. I will need to print out lesson plans, student work, resources, activities, and games for my students. The sky's the limit when it comes to having a color printer. It enables me to create visual materials to engage my students both during distance learning and in the school building. I plan to use a color printer to print out colorful visuals aids for my students when we meet online.

My students struggle with their learning and many of them come from diverse backgrounds, having a color printer will allow me to create visual aids in color to assist them with their learning during my instruction.

Using these interactive visual aids will help me communicate complex concepts more effectively with my students and break down those concepts so they can understand them better. Having a color printer will help increase my students' interest in hands-on Math and Science activities, and helps bring the lessons to life. This project will allow my current and future students to print out their class projects. Furthermore, I will be able to print out notes for when students are absent, data reports, and certificates. Having a color printer will help my students in so many ways, especially my students who struggle with their learning and are new to the United States.
