My Students

I'm excited to teach the founding class of the first new school in Oakland Unified in ten years. O-Sol is located in a low-income neighborhood near the Oakland Coliseum, but its innovative program is attracting students from all over the city.

Some students at SOL come from different dual immersion elementary schools, while others are new arrivals to the US who are relieved to find that their second language is seen as an asset, not a problem.

All of them are innovators who will be key to the success of the new school.

My Project

This is the second phase of our great robot adventure, where students experiment with engineering concepts and coding practice, as well as learning about the design phases of a technical project.

These LEGO robots bring excitement to my young students' eyes and motivate them to wrestle with difficult concepts of algorithms, variables, design, testing, and much more.

Each team will have a designer, a tester, a programmer, an engineer, and a business analyst, so they can get the flavor of how technical teams take advantage of the strengths of their colleagues to make a project successful.

I have worked with these robot kits before, and while they are definitely more advanced than the beginner robot kits that we are starting the year with, I am excited to show students how to advance their programming and engineering skills to the next level with EV3 Mindstorms. Please help me make this real!
