My Students

I teach a 4th-grade inclusion class at a New York City, Title I elementary school where all children qualify for free breakfast and lunch. My students are both general and special education.

My classroom is a diverse population of students from a mosaic of cultures.

My challenge is to differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of such a diverse family of students who are in language acquisition and basic learning modes. With students of such different learning abilities, I strive to create an inclusive and warm accepting classroom.

My goal this year is to create a dynamic and warm 4th-grade family where all my students feel free to express themselves and feel pride in who they are. As I tap into the talents of my students, it's important for me to have the supplies they need to create and learn.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting through this project will help my students bring their books to life. The paint, paint brushes, paint palettes and paper will be used to create various scenes through the texts they study in class. The students will be able to have me use the paper cutter to cut smaller pieces of the yardstick to add to their scenes. We can use the glue gun to secure the pieces of paper together.

By donating to our project you will help my students get the opportunity to create real- life scenes from the text they read.

Being able to use art in the classroom encourages students to want to read. They are able to use their creativity to show what they learned from a text.
