My Students

The students in my classroom are becoming increasingly independent and sophisticated with the use of technology and the use of our amplified musical instruments. The individual pairs of LilGadgets headphones - with their own personal bags - will help my students be able to use these resources more.

I teach a wonderful group of first graders at a school in Southern California where 40% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 100% of the students receive free breakfast daily.

Our school loves to integrate the arts and technology into our academics because we know that many students get inspired and thrive in an atmosphere where they can explore and have fun too. We are a school of many cultures, and many students speak another language other than English at home.

My Project

My students use computers for science, social studies, reading, writing, and math... and the computers make noise. My students use tablets with educational apps that also run the gamut across the curricular areas... and these also make noise. My students use an electric guitar, electric piano, drum machine, and garage band... and guess what? These make noise, too. The individual headphones will allow my students to use any and all of these resources to their fullest, because they will no longer need to worry about distracting others. They will listen to the stories of early native Americans, or watch and hear birds in their habitats, or create new musical compositions... and all without disrupting others who might be working alone, with a teacher, or be doing their own thing with their own headphones.

This project will make a difference because students will get to grow their own creativity and take initiative for their own learning.

Aside from the lesson in personal responsibility of taking care of their very own piece of technology, the headphones will expand the individual's ability to create, discover, and imagine to his/her fullest.
