Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager to learn and willing to work. They come from all across the District of Columbia to attend our public charter school. To attend, students simply have to apply and win a lottery system; there is no achievement requirement. With students from every ward of the district, we have a huge range of diversity within our classrooms, including many ELL (English Language Learners) and special education students. The students are enthusiastic and ready to learn.

My students truly enjoy hands-on science experiences, often naming them as the "high" of the day.

I hope to provide them with even more authentic science experiences within the classroom.

My Project

Our Middle School has a growing STEM Club. Many students are interested in the overlap between art and STEM, growing our club into a STEAM Club. These art supplies will allow me to offer a wide variety of STEAM activities to my students.

STEAM activities have become increasingly popular within our ongoing STEM Club.

The markers will allow us to design scenes for movie making, create puppets and other moving creatures, and decorate sculptures. The perler beads will allow students to explore pixel art as they create and build their own designs. The origami paper will help us explore the intersection of geometry and art. The wax sticks will allow students to build in three dimensions.

All of these supplies can be used in many different projects with students to spark their joy and interest in STEAM.
