My Students

"Involve me and I will understand!" This is the motto I live by with my students. A typical day in my class includes exploration and experiments involving hands-on learning. My students like to sit on the floor and freely explore scientific and academic concepts.

My students are the shining stars in our school, which is located in a very impoverished neighborhood of the city.

Most of the students are from immigrant families of low-socioeconomic status. I teach the Gifted students in 1st, 4th, and 5th Grade. These students come to school every day, eager for knowledge and the opportunity to explore academic concepts. However, many of them cannot afford materials to complete projects at home or in class. Even a box of crayons or a pencil is unaffordable for these students and their families. Many times, I have had to provide the materials to assist with the students' projects.

My Project

My students love to sit on pieces of a small puzzle mat on the floor and explore scientific concepts and ideas. I would love for them to have a proper carpet, where they can sit comfortably and work. Having the STEM science materials would be a big help for us because the 4th and 5th graders would be able to grasp advance scientific concepts easier with these materials. We improvise when it comes to science experiments so this would open up a whole new world for my students. They are very creative and usually use paints for murals and class projects so having the paints would be very much appreciated. We are in need of the headphones because the students need to have this when they are taking a diagnostic on line assessment. Recently one of my students scored poorly on a test because she couldn't hear the instructions without headphones.

Donations to this project will be greatly appreciated by me and especially my students.

They will now have the opportunity to be involved with the learning process and they will be able to express themselves creatively with the materials that are funded through this project. I know that this will benefit them greatly and provide concrete assistance to abstract concepts.
