My Project

"It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations-something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own." Access to literature will ignite students' love of reading and engage them in books to enrich their lives intellectually and emotionally.

Books are one of the best ways we can teach our students. Books build background and share the world through words and pictures. It is amazing to watch my students become excited, entranced, and involved in stories. Picture books find a way to make students excited about reading again as well as gain academic knowledge in all subject areas, which helps them to succeed in both school and life. Learning through literacy is a best practice technique for activating students' interests and abilities to comprehend abstract concepts. These book boxes would allow me to organize our classroom library and my favorite classroom read alouds. I would be able to quickly locate a book to incorporate into other subject areas. I am looking to enrich my students' reading experience by creating a space for students to find books related to what we are learning in our social studies and science inquiry units, as well as writing units and math units.
