My Students

My students come from mixed socioeconomic backgrounds. They usually start the year explaining to me how social studies is their least favorite class in school. However, I then explain to them that I want to teach them social studies in a way they have never been taught before and their interest is sparked. Then it is up to me to deliver!

My students are creative minded, active learners who are oftentimes misunderstood.

Help me spark their interest and reach all students in my classroom by creating a comfortable, learning environment that shows them that school can be a warm, inviting place to be.

My Project

I have learned that creating a welcoming, comfortable environment is step 1 to building student engagement in my classroom. Many of the students who enter my classroom have things going on in their lives and live in daily chaos.

In order to reduce the chaotic feelings my students have, I want to create an atmosphere that is welcoming and inviting by using soft lighting.

The traditional ceiling lights in my classroom create a buzzing noise that makes you feel like you are in a hospital setting. These lights will allow students to relieve their stress and focus on the history that I am trying to have them experience in my classroom
