Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title I school, which means my students come from low income/disadvantaged homes. This year my class has 17 out of 24 who are classified as LEP (limited English proficient). Our school also has a high number of refugees. Out of my 24, 5 in my class are refugees.

These students receive free lunches and many receive free clothes from school as well.

Although these students come from low-income households, they are not any less deserving of a wonderful classroom experience. I create a positive classroom environment where students feel comfortable to learn and are set up for success for years to come.

My Project

If you have ever seen cute projects on bright paper, this is Astrobrights. If you have ever seen amazing bulletin boards with bright colors like: hot pink, lime green, cyan, canary yellow, etc, this is Astrobrights.

The school only provides your standard construction paper with dull primary colors.

The projects don't turn out as nice on construction paper, and the other big problem is that you can't put it in the printer to print documents on.

All teachers want Astrobrights, because we want our classrooms to be full of bright inviting colors. A classroom full of dull primary colors, would make the classroom feel dull.

Many of us use our own money to buy Astrobrights, but as teachers it is hard to afford buying it on top of the other items we have to buy. I want my students to have the right resources to make them do their best work. Providing me with Astrobrights paper would make all the difference in our classroom.
