Help me give my students resources to manipulate and understand fractions! Also, our school recently installed brighter lights. It is so bright that we need a few new lights filters to improve our focus.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I work with a wonderful and diverse group of students that range from 6th through 12th grade. No two children are the same with multiple and severe handicaps. These students have a few more hoops to jump through than others. My students learn, while learning to overcome their multiple disabilities.
We are goal focused and strive to tackle new challenges daily!
My job as a educator is to find the best ways to reach and teach my students. Using all available resources, I set up individualized and small group learning for each student to reach their maximum potential. In our self contained classroom , I strive to create a positive learning environment for all students with the help of a fantastic work family, supportive parents and of course our amazing donors.
Our student body is quite diverse: 50% Caucasian, 42% American Indian, 4% Hispanic, 2% African American and 2% Asian. Out of these students, approximately 15% of those are in special education. We provide free or reduced-price lunches to 47% of our students as well. Our overall state score is a B+ as we hold high expectations for all of our students.
My Project
Fractions, fractions and more fractions! This year it seems many of my students are entering the fun world of learning fractions. We have a few resources for our students to use but we need so much more. Our students need better manipulatives, visuals and solid examples of what fractions are.
Help our special students to better understand fractions by providing concrete examples and helping their focus by providing new light filters for our classroom.
Some students are currently learning what it means to have a fraction and others are working on manipulating fractions with multiplication and division. We have asked for magnetic and regular fractions bars so that students can manipulate the pieces and see what fraction parts physically look like. We have requested fraction flip books. These books will be a great resource to show number lines and provide a visual how far a fraction is between whole numbers.
We have included light filters for the new fluorescent lighting in our classroom. Our school recently installed a new type of light bulb throughout our buildings. These lights are super bright and for some of our students this is very distracting and hard for them to handle all day. Providing these filters will help our students to remain focused on their work and can improve their behaviors during the school day.
