This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are bright, energetic and excited to learn! But as a School Counselor in a Title 1 School in the Bronx, I do not readily have access to print bright and colorful resources for my students or the families I work with. Our school utilizes many strategies to help students with their social emotional learning. One strategy is a mood meter. Our students from kindergarten to 5th know what a mood meter is and learn how to identify their feelings based on a color coded chart. We strive for our students to be in the Green (Happy) or the Yellow (Calm) zones! When children are in these zones (as opposed to Blue (Sad) or Red (Angry)) they are more focused and motivated to learn in the academic environment!

It would be outstanding if my students could continue to learn and practice how to self regulate their emotions with their very own mood meter printed in color, in addition to other fun resources to keep them engaged motivated in their learning!

I would absolutely love to be able to share printables in color with my students! When children see brightly colored activities, they are more likely to be excited and interested than if a black and white copy is placed in front of them. This applies to grown ups too! I often want to share pamphlets and resources for parents and handing them a black and white copy is not the same as giving them access to colorful and engaging information.

We live in a bright, colorful world and I want my students to have access to color and fun while they learn to keep them focused, engaged and motivated!
