My Students

I teach 6th grade in one of the lowest performing pre-k-8th grade schools in New York State. Most of our students receive free lunch and come from less than desirable home lives.

My students not only face challenges due to their socioeconomic background, but also due to various disabilities.

Low self-esteem and lack of confidence to take risks in the classroom are things that I battle daily with my 6th graders. When they feel comfortable and welcome in the classroom, they seem to be more willing to work towards, and eventually achieve academic and social/emotional goals.

My Project

My school is in a poverty-stricken area, where many students do not have the necessary supplies or tools they need to succeed. Building a positive, safe, inviting classroom community and environment is necessary.

Our classroom needs to be warm and inviting-creating a positive learning environment in which students can feel comfortable to take risks.

Motivational posters, bulletin board decor, and an easel will help me to create a bright and cheery classroom. Classroom community is something we build throughout the year, not just in our class, but also school-wide. We strive to provide differentiated, culturally-responsive instruction and need more resources to do that.

I hope to receive support from DonorsChoose in order to help create a bright and cheery classroom environment for my 6th grade students. I desire to foster a sense of community, safety, and comfort in my classroom, as well as help my students create long-lasting memories to help them connect positively to school. I appreciate your support in helping my students get what they need to learn and grow.
