Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a very efficient place. My students are learning how to be self sufficient. They are the managers in the run and they handle the systems and processes. My goal for them in independence not only in the classroom, but also in any learning environment in which they find themselves.

My classes are composed of students who range from those who are on-level to those who are a few years behind in their reading levels.

I have English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented students and Special Education students. At times, I have all of these students in one room. They all want to learn and they all want to be scholars. My students are at a critical point in their education. They are in the first year of middle school. this is when they start becoming more and more independent. They are learning that the choices that they make really may have lifelong ramifications. My school is implementing changes this year to make sure that all of the students become "scholars", and that they learn to command their own fates. My students are very technological and they need technology in the classroom. My school is trying to instill a sense of new age learning in our "scholars" . I want to aid in this mission as much as possible..

My Project

These two laptops will become my computer center. My students will be using the laptops in the classroom to go on-line and access a reading/ English program that will allow them to differentiate their learning. They will also utilize the laptop to write and their essays. Not all of my students have computers in their homes so they will all be able to rotate through the computer center. The timers will allow equity when it comes to computer time so all students will have consistent time on the laptops. We will use the CD player in a listening center so students who need language acquisition assistance will get it. The books that we read in class normally have a audio component that the students will use to better aid them in comprehension. All of these components will enable the classroom to have a functioning center that will serve all of the students in my classroom. Our goal is to have students embrace the learning process and know that they have their individual needs met.

This project will improve my students' lives by giving them access to technology that will allow them to level the "playing field" just a little.

They will be able to have some differentiation in their learning. They will have consistent access to online programs that will help them to close the gap in some cases and in others to get even further ahead. My classroom will be a place where students will feel that their learning is special and individualized.
