Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Over the past few weeks, the attendance of some of my multilingual elementary students (MLs) from immigrant families has been significantly affected. Misinformation, particularly through social media, has created fear and uncertainty, leading some families to keep their children at home. Unfortunately, these absences disrupt their academic progress, limiting their ability to develop skills in all four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

To address this urgent issue, I propose providing iPads for MLs to use during extended absences, long weekends, and extended breaks, such as winter and spring break.

This initiative would allow students to continue accessing essential online educational platforms to stay engaged in their academic progress.

By offering multilingual support, we can ensure equitable access to education for MLs at all proficiency levels, from level 1 to level 4. Many of these students are Newcomers, having recently arrived from another country, and they need additional support to bridge the educational gap.

As an immigrant child, I experienced firsthand the fear and uncertainty of being in a new country. In addition, I was two years behind grade level and was always trying to catch up. I understand what young children and families are facing today, and I know the impact that access to learning resources can have.

By providing technology resources, we can empower MLs to succeed academically despite the challenges they may face. I urge potential donors and partners to support this initiative and make a meaningful impact on the lives of these children. By investing in technology resources, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
