Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Gifted and Talented Middle School students, many of whom are English Language Learners (ELLs), are intellectually curious and have great STEM ideas, but they don't have school computers to explore and research their ideas in real time. Across the country, under-resourced communities like ours including ELLs, people of color, and low-income families are the ones with the least access to working devices and high-speed internet, and those brilliant ideas often get lost in the shuffle. Our students need access to basic technology to provide them with tools to learn languages and practice their 21st century skills.

The impact of the digital divide on these students and their STEM learning has been significant in the last few years and continues to worsen, but you can help.

Our middle school students are so motivated to discover, learn and excel, yet they are at a significant disadvantage compared to their peers who have 24-hour access to appropriate technology. Having a set of 20 computers and a locked storage cart in our classroom can facilitate our students' critical thinking skills and access to STEM projects and in turn, provide better opportunities today and in the future.

Please help us bridge the digital divide in the classroom and give our students a fighting chance to take their places as well-informed critical thinkers, creators, and conscientious global citizens.
