My Project

Our Title I school houses students from all over the world. We have families from China, Ecuador, Mexico, Pakistan, Yemen, Russia, Buryat, Kalmykia, Poland, Puerto Rico, Pakistan, Italy, and the good 'ole USA. You might say we're steeped in culture and we love celebrating as a community.

Multicultural Food and Games Night gives families time to meet, eat, play, and learn about diverse cultures with their students and our school's loving teachers and staff.

Although we recognize our similarities and shared strengths and celebrate our diversity every day at school, the students' families don't typically get to gather with those outside their home cultures. Once a year, we open our doors to our students and their families for a multicultural potluck game night. Families prepare dishes and beverages from their home culture and we sing, dance, tell stories, play games, and make crafts from around the world. Through this family engagement, our students learn to recognize and appreciate the similarities among diverse cultures. This improves communication, compassion, and commitment to cultivating a shared community wherein all are welcome and appreciated for their unique strengths, creativity, and flavors.

The families will bring the flavors but we need some games from around the world to engage them between bites and sips. Please help us strengthen the bonds that unite us and build a stronger community at school so our students can "be the change that [they] wish to see in the world." (Mahatma Gandhi)
