My Project

This grant requests seeks funding to support a local field trip of scholars walking across the iconic Ravenel Bridge in Charleston, SC.

The purpose of this trip is to enhance students' understanding of local geography, engineering, and environmental science while promoting physical activity.

We aim to inspire the next generation of scholars by connecting them to their local environment and history.

The children will work using Legos and Kinetix to build their own bridges within a small group of three scholars. The scholars will also learn about the type of animals and foliage that live in the Charleston Harbor. This trip will benefit students by providing hands on learning experiences that align with our curriculum goals in science, engineering, arts and math.

The walking field trip will promote health and wellness by encouraging physical activity through walking. It will also foster a sense of community and pride in local landmarks. The scholars will explore local geography, including the Charleston Harbor ecosystem and its significance.

The grant will allow the purchase of water bottles, sun visors and drawstring backpacks to be used on the walk.
