My Project

The transition to high school can be challenging, especially for students who struggled to reach all of the academic milestones in middle school. To bridge the gaps toward Algebra readiness, I will be working with a select group of rising ninth graders this summer. While learning math, students will also engage in a variety of activities to prepare them for a smoother transition to high school.

My students will spend the month of June strengthening their mathematics toolbox, practicing organization skills, and exploring how math is used in various careers.

Your donation will help to provide supplies for the students to use daily and snacks to fuel their brains during mid-day breaks. Each student will receive a math learning kit with a composition notebook, dry erase markers, pencils, scissors, glue sticks, a deck of index cards, a personal whiteboard and a scientific calculator. The math learning kits will be used daily as we explore concepts to identify mathematical patterns and build connections across the curriculum. It will also become a back to school starter kit for the fall.

Maintaining the math notebook by units will allow students to actively engage in and monitor their progress throughout camp. Along with the daily planner, students will practice organization strategies to assist them in August as they learn to balance the pacing and workload associated with seven classes. Moreover, there will be a series of Career Chats to expose students to professionals in many fields who will share their personal journey and details about how they use mathematics in their work routines.

The summer experience and mathematics toolbox that we develop will prepare every student for success during the transition to high school and beyond! Will you make a donation to help us bring the project to life?
