My Students

As the technology teacher for our school community, I am not in the classroom daily. Instead, I work with the classroom teachers to create large scale projects for the students that incorporate technology of all types.

Located in Philadelphia, our school is a small but powerful force for positive change.

Students in our school are encouraged to explore and create in a variety of outlets, including a woodshop. Our school is in its second year and we are slowly adding to our materials and supplies to further help our students succeed.

My Project

The materials lab (woodshop) is not a class, it's an extension of all classes. So far this year, we have integrated the materials lab into math lessons, science lessons, and we are about to welcome the foreign language classes in. Each project is unique to fit the subject but teaching our students skills that can be transferred to many areas.

Masks are disposable, but a necessary safety tool to protect our students' lungs from dust particles in the lab.

While in the lab, students use both hand and power tools to design. While using the power tools, saw dust can be sprayed everywhere. While the room has vacuums and filters, we still need to make sure our students are remaining safe, as safety is also part of the lessons being taught. As a consumable item these masks are hard to keep in stock and we can't run the lab without them.
