This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Soccer is a universal language, one that brings together students of many different cultures, experiences, and personalities. My soccer team has always included students of various backgrounds, temperaments, academic levels, and social circles, allowing friendships to form which would have never likely happened without shared experiences on the soccer field.

My soccer players, like many other students in my school, don't come from privileged backgrounds or easy circumstances.

Three out of four students at my school are eligible for free lunch. Many of our students come from some of the toughest neighborhoods in NYC. Most of our students enter our school below grade level in reading and math proficiency. Yet despite these obstacles, our graduation rate last year was 100% and 100% of our seniors apply for college or a post-graduation program.

I strongly believe that playing on a school team goes a long way in teaching students valuable life skills that allow them to overcome obstacles and set themselves on a path to lead productive lives.

My Project

Since 2015, our Boys Soccer Team has played with heart and determination. Four years later, our soccer jerseys reflect the blood, sweat, and tears that resulted from countless battles on the soccer field. It is time for our boys to have beautiful new jerseys as we look to take our soccer program to the next level. Help breathe new life into our team with new jerseys that don't have deep stains, rips, or worn out numbers. Brand new jerseys will give our team an important psychological advantage on the field. Additionally, we must struggle to find field space to practice in crowded Downtown Brooklyn. Having a pair of large portable goals will allow us to have effective practices no matter where we end up.

On game days our Boys Soccer Team should be proud to wear their jerseys around the school!
