My Project

This project will help cover the cost of the Breathe For Change comprehensive training program. This program is designed for educators to develop skills for facilitating wellness and social-emotional learning in the classroom, as well as teaching inclusive and trauma-informed yoga classes to young people.

Although I hold an undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Physical Education, I have never received formal training in Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

I am seeking to fill this gap in my professional development to better serve my students. As a third-grade teacher, this training will help me implement proactive principles and practices to build healthy classroom communities and learning environments.

This professional development will fuel my passion and empower me to be fully present with my students, strategically designing a safe, healthy, and inclusive space where they can be their authentic selves. They will learn to use yoga and mindfulness as vehicles for healing and learning.

Upon completing the Breathe For Change course, I will become certified as a Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator (SEL*F) and earn a nationally recognized RYT-200 yoga teacher certification. In addition to teaching third grade, I also lead the school's Running Club, which includes students from Kindergarten through 5th Grade. This gives me a unique opportunity to share my new skills with the entire student body, incorporating social-emotional and wellness supports not only in my daily classroom but also throughout the entire school population via the Running Club. Additionally, I will be able to facilitate workshops to share these resources with other educators.
