Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a lifelong learner, I have always sought out new ways to support my students in their academic, emotional, and physical health. My goal is to become a certified yoga teacher specifically trained in ways to support students in their social-emotional breathing and yoga journeys. I will be teaching an elective class next year called Third Eye Writing which will incorporate breathing, meditation, yoga, and writing. Students will then publish their writing works and become better able to handle the stress of school and life. My goal is to train my entire school staff in ways to support students at our alternative education high school.

Together, our students and I will learn and implement powerful mind-body wellness practices like yoga/mindful movement, mindfulness, and breathwork, and learn self-care, social-emotional learning, and community-building strategies that positively impact their lives.

Our students need innovative teaching practices that help them learn how to regulate their emotions. Students' academic outcomes will improve as their will learn how to breathe, stretch, and change their lives for the better.
