My Project

My Students

I teach SEL (Social Emotional Learning) to 6th graders, providing them with life tools to help them cope with the challenges of adolescence, school, and relationships.

Our environment is one of kindness, safety, and focus, ensuring every student feels valued and included. Topics include learning about the adolescent brain, mindful awareness, understanding emotions/feelings, empathy, optimism, gratitude, kindness and compassion, self-care, and yoga.

Many students, especially those with special needs and students who have overcome and experienced extreme hardship and personal trauma, benefit from the mindfulness activities that I have used within the classroom. With your help, I aim to expand our resources and empower these students with tools they can use now and throughout their lives.

My Project

The Breathe For Change Transformative TEACHing and Leadership Training will allow me to engage with a community of educators while studying powerful and research-based mind-body wellness practices. Our learning will emphasize yoga/mindful movement, mindfulness, breath work, social-emotional learning, and community building strategies. Through this training, I will become equipped and empowered to teach inclusive and trauma-informed yoga classes to young people and adults in my community.

The training will teach me the following practices which I can integrate into my classroom, school and community:

Be Trauma-Informed, Foster Equity & Inclusion, Make Learning Accessible, Cultivate Community, Facilitate Healing, Deepen Expertise in Yoga, Lead Social Change

Mindfulness programs in schools are linked to improvement in students' social-emotional wellness, memory, organizational skills, and academic performance.
