My students are a creative group of individuals that come from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. They do not let the hurdles they must overcome stop them from achieving their goals. As the librarian at our high school, I know how important it is for both the library and learning to be accessible to all students.
My students are inquisitive and don't let any challenges laid before them stop them from succeeding!
A large part of our students becoming college and career ready is developing their skills as researchers, having a diverse school library collection, and an innovative library program is essential to our students achieving that goal!
This project will provide my book club students with personal copies of two very different novels. My students have enjoyed reading outside their comfort genre and reading books they never thought they'd pick up on their own and this project helps them continue their reading journey!
Whether they are reading novels about zombies, dream thieves, angels with questionable motives, they all center on strength, hope, and perseverance.
And teaching and learning during a pandemic, we have needed all three!
This project will provide our book club students with their own copy of Angelfall by Susan Ee and The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. Both novels will bring a unique reading experience to my students. Angelfall is full of suspense, survival, and a sprinkle of romance set in a dystopian future, while Mackesy's novel is a thought-provoking journey filled with universal life lessons that will allow our students to see and feel the beauty in literature. While very different, both novels support our student's growth as readers and will be a great addition to their personal at home libraries.
