What I love about my students is how determined they are. Their upbringing and the obstacles they face could break them down and force them to give up, but they make the choice to keep fighting and strive to be the best they can be. My students are AVID students. This means they are students of minority, have a grade point average between 2.5-3.5, are underprivileged, and their test scores show that they are college bound. The odds for these students are against them but they refuse to let statistics hold them back.
Seeing a student walk out into the rain with no home to go to after school really flipped on a switch for me.
It was pouring rain and this senior walked out into the rain after tutorials with me and I saw him still out there when I left the school that evening. The next day I asked him if he was okay the day before and he let me know he had no home to go to and that's why he was coming to tutorials every day. This just shows the determination these students have. I want to help them break chains and reach their goals!!
These Chromebooks will allow my students valuable time to research colleges, type resumes, and fill out college and scholarship applications. Most of my students do not have access to computers at home and struggle to find time in school to get things of this sort done. Having the chromebooks in the classroom will allow them school time to work on these which in the end will help them reach their goals of going to college.
My students have huge hopes and dreams and want to break the chains of the norms in their families.
However, their home life can hinder these goals. I want to give them the opportunity to achieve all of their goals and these chrome books will help more than anything.
