My students need a storage cart to keep our small classroom safe and clutter free. The comprehension cards will help my students prepare for standardized testing.
"Safety First" is a concept taught to us during our early childhood years and the classroom is no exemption to this rule. The mobile cart will provide storage for my students and keep their learning area safe and clutter free.
The cards will prepare the students for standardized testing.
My students live in a small, quiet town primary dependent on agriculture.
The poverty level is high and majority of the students battle financial hardship, single parent or no parents, and other trying factors at home. A few years ago, the town faced a dangerous hurricane which devastated the community. Their school is old and needs work, but the staff aims to equip students with the skills needed to become lifelong learners.
My Project
At the very end of the 2009-2010 school year, I had to relocate to a smaller, older classroom on campus. During that last month of school, my students faced the issue of where to store their backpacks and other personal belongings. I have a very small closet in my new classroom which is full of supplies and has no room for the students' backpacks and jackets. The students were forced to keep their belongings at their seats. This caused many issues such as others tripping and stepping on backpacks and no room for learning/group activities. The students also became easily distracted by all the clutter. The mobile cart would eliminate this clutter and give us extra space.
In March, my students take the FCAT, which is a standardized test. The test covers 8 reading comprehension skills, which we focus on all year. Those 8 skills are what the cards are based on and provide practice for students. I can incorporate these cards into several centers and small group activities.
As an educator, I strive to provide my students with materials and learning environments that heighten understanding and excitement.
I am passionate about teaching and believe that these two materials will assist our classroom for the upcoming school year.
