My Students

My 2nd grade students live in a gorgeous rural town in Alaska. With that comes fishing, hunting, and hiking--opportunities that make my kiddos rugged and healthy. Yet the rate for children living in poverty here is much higher than the national average of 22%. So it's a mixed bag. My students want to learn, but often come to school not ready to learn. Any tools that make learning easier helps kids engage in their learning and brings smiles all around!

My Project

Personalized learning is all about offering students the opportunity to learn at their own pace, especially in a blended classroom where computer stations are part of the rotations students can choose from. So it's a brainy choice to select software such as Brainzy that supports learning on each student's level! Adding this program to our rotations will lower frustration for students who struggle with academics as well as for students who are ahead and need a challenge. The program also allows teachers to follow student progress on an easy-to-use dashboard, as well as set skills and standards to match curriculum and student need.
