BrainPop! To Inspire Student Engagement, Learning and Love of Science!

My students need an interactive subscription to BrainPop! We were able to use a few BrainPop! videos last year for big science concepts, and the way things are explained really aided my students' understanding.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an exceptional group of 7th, 9th and 10th graders who come from a very diverse group of neighborhoods around New York City. The majority are from Brooklyn, and many are low-income, as is the bulk of our school.

As students go, this particular group is incredibly inquisitive and thoughtful.

For the first time in my career I will be teaching students for a second year in a row, and I could not be more excited. The excitement they showed as they participated in labs, grappled with the "big questions" of each unit, and the dedication they showed to inquiry-based thinking was inspiring to see.

My Project

BrainPop! is an interactive piece of technology that contains videos, graphic organizers, quizzes and more on dozens of topics covered in both the Earth Science and Living Environment curricula.

To see my students watch the BrainPop videos is to see them have an "AHA" moment!

Each video breaks down difficult concepts in to more understandable terms, while teaching vocabulary along the way. The ability to see, hear, and then practice new ideas is helpful for all of my students, but it is most helpful for my Special Education students, whose needs vary the most. Students also take ownership of their learning by coming up to the board to lead the quizzes for the class, and build leadership by guiding that portion of our lesson! BrainPop! would be a great addition to any classroom, but particularly for a science class, it is an amazing resource.
