Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an educator at a low income school, I am constantly at war with the knowledge gap. I am referring to the gap our students' arrive with in language and exposure to past and current events. Moreover, I work at a school where 50% of our students are emergent bilingual. They are taking on the mental load of language acquisition and content! To combat this demand, myself and my colleagues are working to develop content-based units where students are reading, writing, speaking, and listening to related content. This provides the basis for keeping anxiety low and creating space for higher order thinking. Brain Pop is a digital platform that allows me to support my content instruction in a way that is thorough, quality, and safe for students to view. I believe that activating as many parts of the brain as possible makes learning more memorable and more transferable. Please help me in purchasing this tool for bridging the knowledge gap!
