Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious and love a challenge, but we are forced to use a curriculum that, while challenging, sometimes seems like more work than fun. In our after school program they get to play challenging games that teach strategy, decision making, probability, persistence, and other critical thinking skills. They compete against one another, but also practice good sportsmanship.

We alternate playing traditional two person boardgames like Othello, Backgammon, and Mastermind and single player games like Rush Hour and Shape by Shape with paper and pencil games including logic problems, decoding, cryptograms, sudoku and battleships.

Some kids prefer mazes and word puzzles. Each child gets to learn a variety of puzzles and games and then choose which ones to explore more deeply.
