My Students

Imagine a Psychology class where the students are studying the brain and how its various parts affect human behavior. The best way to gain hands on experience (other than mapping a real brain ala Gazzaniga and Sperry) is to do it in this simulated fashion.

My students are a very diverse mix of children from all over the world.

They are academically motivated and love to do hands on type projects. They are part of the International baccalaureate program which is a school within a school at my (their) very large, urban comprehensive high school!

My Project

My students will use these styrofoam wig heads to make a map of the human brain. They may use whatever medium they choose as long as it adheres to the head and is able to be correctly labeled. This activity will enhance their understanding of the structure and function of the human brain as well as the various parts.

This project will help enhance the learning experience of my students because they will be creating their map in a much more realistic fashion than by merely reading about the parts of the human brain.

Hands on projects assist in much more efficient retention of content because they make the it meaningful to the student.
