Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Gifted students are prone to work in isolation. Their years quarantining with COVID-19 have only added to this problem.

I would like to bring in a few STEM board games to encourage community, cooperation, communication, empathy, logical thinking, and creativity.

Chess will also benefit students to become better critical thinkers.

Students will utilize the board games as community builders, in class assignments through our gifted program, and during times they finish their work. My students are obsessed with Chess, which is such a great game for them to work on after they finish their assignments. For this reason, I am also going to incorporate Chess strategies into one of my gifted, critical thinking classes. Students will learn openings and strategies to help become better Chess players. We know that Chess has many cognitive benefits such as improving memory, learning from mistakes, and helping with problem solving skills. I'd much rather see my students working together on board games than tuned into their technology in isolation when they finish their assignments.
