This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students face several challenges both in and outside of the classroom. In addition to this, each of my students have a disability that sometimes hinders their performance and attitude when in the classroom. Nevertheless, they work hard to overcome all the obstacles that interfere with their learning.
Since, my students live in a low socio-economic area they learn to live without supplies and healthy necessities that are needed for learning.
It's important for them to learn that hard work will lead them to success.
My Project
Students need breaks and snacks to stay focused during a long day of learning!
These snacks will ensure that the students will be gain brain power to be successful as they learn in the classroom.
Since, my students come from a low socioeconomic families, they need to be nourished in order for them to function. Lunch is at 1:00 PM everyday. Since, school starts at 8:30AM, my students go about 5 hours without eating. During these 5 hours they get restless and are focused on when their next meal will be not on learning.
If my students can get these snacks, I would add them into Stanford Harmony time. During Harmony Circle, children are enthusiastically participating in building positive peer relationships and developing a sense of community within the classroom. This is their favorite time of the day and it takes place at 10:45AM, which is in the middle of their day. therefore, giving the students a snack during circle will boost their focus and learning.
A small snack of brain food can do wonders for their learning.
