My Students

Our students are dynamic, creative, and brave! They love learning, engaging with their peers, making connections between their learning and their own experiences, and trying new things. We have an incredible group of learners at our school.

Like all children in school at this time, our students are attempting to navigate how to learn from home, using technology in a way they never have before.

As the school’s social emotional learning coach, I see the deep social emotional impact this is taking on our students. We have families reaching out for help as their children navigate extreme anxiety, depression, lethargy, and frustration for the first time. Our students with intellectual disabilities and communication disorders are especially struggling as it can be challenging to help them understand our current season.

My Project

Emotions can be such an abstract concept for many of our students. As the social emotional learning coach at my school, I want our students to better understand the connection between our emotions and our brains!

I am requesting 3 plastic models of the brain, 2 books explaining growth mindset, and a curriculum to help guide us.

These materials will help me to create lessons explaining what happens in our brains when we experience anger, fear, excitement (etc!), and how we can use this knowledge to help manage and regulate our emotions.

I believe knowledge is power. With better understanding of how our bodies function, our students will have a stronger awareness and better handle on how they can grow as learners and people.
