Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In Boys to Men Group, the focus is to build strong connections, that will create a community of mindful, aware, and determined young men, changing their outlook about themselves, and the world around them. The group is a mentorship, and a space to allow young men the opportunity to be heard, seen, and empowered. They will learn to honor all aspects of who they are.

The snacks I am requesting will be used for our bi-monthly community events.

A big part of the work we are doing is creating a safe space within the community that students can trust one another, and express themselves no judgement. So by making community events a routine, in addition to our weekly groups, students will begin to form a community, but also a stronger sense of safety and trust among their peers. This in turn will impact student attendance and academics. The journals and pens I am requesting are to allow the young men the opportunity to express themselves daily. Each young men will receive their own notebook, and pen. This will be their responsibility to keep for the duration of the group. Black and brown men don't have spaces to express themselves, learn, build community, have a voice, and show their true self. In Boys to Men we do, we want to build and nurture community, develop the person, and open young mens minds to different perspectives of life.

Boys to Men, could use these donations (snacks, notebooks, and pens). This will help us facilitate events, and group activities. As a social work, in a transfer school (South Bronx), students being provided these items will help the facilitation of events and groups, and most of all connect to oneself.
