My Students

We want to take the extra step to type our projects! This is the extra effort that my boys writers are taking! There are 17 boys in our reading/writing club. They are sharing one laptop right now to complete their projects. They would all like to type their assignments!

My 7th and 8th grade boys are hard working students of great character.

They attend a turnaround school, which means that it is in academic emergency. I started a boys writing and reading group because I wanted to encourage a love for reading. I also wanted to teach young men how to respect each other and learn to get along. They each have their own amazing personalities that all contribute to the success of one another. They are learning from each other, not just from me. They are motivated and want to learn. They are boys who have appreciation for any contribution.

My Project

At our most recent meeting one boy said, "I just want to say that thanks to another group member, I am getting better at writing and learning to rhyme. He encourages me to want to write more and more." The boy who said this had no idea how powerful this was. This means that they are learning from one another and helping one another to be successful. They have the group dynamics of a gentleman's club and are learning through reading and writing poetry together. This laptop would provide my boys with an opportunity to be competitive with other students in the world. They currently lack computer skills, while other cities and countries are using them regularly at their age. My boys have taken an interest in doing all their assignments on the computer. They want to learn and they would enjoy learning and researching via computers. Currently they are sharing one laptop for the entire group of 17 members. Your donation would encourage them to keep working to their fullest.

This donation will give my boys an opportunity to enjoy literacy through technology.

It is rare to find such quality students who want to go above and beyond in completion of their assignments. This donation will continue to foster a love of literacy, while allowing them to be competitive with other students in the world. Each donation that you provide will mean the world to them. They will know that others believe in them besides just our staff. They will believe in themselves!
