My Students

I teach an exciting, motivated, and creative group of fifth-grade students. My student population is very diverse. I have some who are special needs students who are working below grade level, while others need to extend their thinking and apply the skills they have mastered in meaningful ways.

My students enjoy coming to school each day and learning from each other.

They use their critical-thinking skills to ask good questions and analyze information. They are creative and are health conscious. When I told them I could write a project for their ideas, they were very excited to incorporate movement into our daily lessons.

My Project

It is important to keep students moving throughout the day while they were learning. In addition to during class time, they needed to remain active for at least 60 minutes during the day, either at recess or during P.E.

In our classroom, we have a few bouncy bands available for kids who request them.

However, most of mine have broken. My students have asked me if we can get more for our classroom, and so I am requesting a full class set of bouncy bands along with sets of replacements in case they break again. I am also requesting the chair bouncy bands, as it will provide more options for my students to choose from.

My students have asked if we could do a dance unit in PE; however, we need a way to play music. I am requesting 2 portable sound systems so that we can have music for our dance unit. We will use one system in the multipurpose room and one system while we are on the blacktop.

My project is "kid-inspired" because my students have been asking to incorporate active movement throughout the day while learning at the same time. They have told me many times that they remember more when they are able to add movement to their learning.
