My Students

I teach an amazing group of students with special needs in an urban title one charter school in Baltimore City. They come to school every day excited and ready to learn! They want to learn so much about the world around them and what's beyond the walls of our classroom. However, the students that I work with bring a lot of baggage into our classroom and it is my job to help them leave that baggage at the door, be kids for a while and learn through fun and exciting ways.

My students disabilities range from Autism to Learning Disabilities and I find that the more hands on and interactive learning can be, the more beneficial it is to my students.

Due to their disabilities, I am constantly changing up my teaching practices and finding new and exciting ways to reach and challenge my students without having them become frustrated and give up.

My Project

My students love to move around while they're learning. They do such a better job completing their work when they are not forced to sit in a chair. My students are allowed to stand or squat while they're completing their work, or sit on the floor on cushions. By giving my students these different options, they are able to move around and get their "wiggles" out while they're learning.

Children were not made to sit all day!!

Some of my students have ADHD and with this comes attention issues. By letting my students sit on balls while completing their work they will be able to bounce out their "wiggles" and spend more time focusing on their work. These balls will help my students be able to fidget as much as they want without distracting them from their very important work!
