My Students

Sitting still can be a task for anyone but can be especially challenging for students with special needs.

I have 11 students in my SDC-Autism program and only two yoga balls.

The kids are becoming so wonderful with their sharing skills; however, it would be nice for all of them to be able to use the bounce balls on breaks or for small group lessons. My kids are learning different ways to manage all of their little quirks, and a lot of them have sensory and motor issues that make them want to get up and go!

My Project

My students need 5 yoga ball chairs to sit on while they are in class so they can bounce out their jitters and work at the same time. I want my students to be able to complete work at our kidney table in smaller groups while bouncing or at least be able to have a turn to bounce within the allotted break time. My students love the yoga balls, and I feel like the more bouncing they can do, the better they will produce.

Ever sit in a chair for a long, long time?

Do you stand up and stretch your back? Get up and take a short walk? Well, in my special day class, it’s really hard for my kids to sit still for a long time. Who can blame them? I incorporate a lot of ball and movement breaks for my students but I am looking for a way my students can move while still completing work at our kidney table in smaller groups.
