Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are located in Queens and are part of the NYC Department of Education school system. We are a middle school that houses over 1900 hundred students. Over 60% of our students are of Hispanic decent. We currently are experiencing a large influx of students from Bangladesh (28% of our population is of Asian decent). 87% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

Our students are respectful and hard working individuals however, they do have a lot of pent up energy because they don't have recess at lunch and only have gym twice a week.

I'm always looking for ways to incorporate movement into their day because research has proven kids learn better when they move. These bouncy bands would be a great way to get our kids quietly moving while sitting in their seats learning.

My Project

I ordered a few Bouncy Bands last month for a couple of students and I found that these bands truly work! They help students focus and release their pent up energy in a quiet manner. I've watched the students who have them on their desk transform from a student who was constantly being reminded to stop talking and finish their work, to now sitting quietly while bouncing his/her feet up and down on the bouncy band while they persevere through their work.

Now all the students want Bouncy Bands for their desk!
