My Students

This is my thirteenth year teaching full-day kindergarten in Naugatuck, CT. I teach in a Title I school, providing many supplies myself. Generally, my class consists of 16-23 students every year and I am responsible for 95% of instruction (we do not have full-time aides or teaching assistants).

My students days are full of learning; daily instruction of language arts (reading and writing), mathematics, science (STEM) and social studies (humanities) is provided.

Students in kindergarten walk a fine line between needing support and rapidly gaining independence. I try to provide students with as much choice as possible (including seating).

I love everything about kindergarten, especially how enthusiastic my young students are!

My Project

Days in full-day kindergarten are long and full of learning! My students work incredibly hard, but I think we can all agree it is hard to sit for too long (especially at five years old). Studies have shown that students using alternative seating (such as therapy balls) are more engaged during lessons. This is especially true for students with special needs.

I would love to provide my students with the opportunity to use these requested Cando ball chairs while rotating through reading groups or elsewhere as needed.

Providing students with the choice of utilizing these ball chairs will not only help them academically but also give them a sense of independence.
