This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A healthy body helps create a healthy mind. Middle school students from under-served communities have few opportunities to exercise and develop social skills in a safe environment. Let's change that!

My students grow up in an under-served community, where resources are scarce.

They are motivated and enthusiastic about their education and are eager learners. Our school is located in the heart of South Los Angeles where there are plenty of distractions and negative influences surrounding them outside of school. School is a place of refuge for many of our students where they learn and grow academically as well as socio-emotionally. Part of our school's mission is to prepare students for high school and beyond, leadership and life.

My Project

The requested materials will be available for use by all of our students. There are several whole school activities where these assets can be very helpful. Pep rallies and gym time are just a couple school-wide activities where these basketballs will be valuable. The basketballs will be primarily used to facilitate the basketball team practices. Using these basketballs will help students develop their functional motor-skills by helping to improve balance as well as hand-eye coordination. Fitness and healthy living habits are promoted through our after school sports program and these materials will play and important part of achieving that goal. Finally, students will learn valuable life skills such as teamwork and leadership.

As I stated earlier, our students are eager learners.

They just need to be provided with opportunities to develop their minds and bodies. After school sports provides an outlet for our students to participate in a productive activity that will help them grow wholly as a student. Participation in our after school sports program also ensures that our students are in a safe protected environment. We cannot run a basketball team without basketballs, so please consider donating to this project.
