My students are amazing! They've experienced many low points during this COVID-19 school year, both personally and academically, but they have never lost their sense of hope, determination, and belief that the world is an amazing place and is worth fighting for. They inspire me and continue to help me realize why I joined the teaching profession!
The educational landscape has been indelibly altered and transformed by the COVID-19 pandemic; the effects of which will continue to be felt for many years to come but we are a resilient bunch and with your continued support, we can adapt and continue to flourish as we strive to learn about ourselves and the world around us.
To look at my students and the ways in which they continue to show up every day in the face of extremely huge mental and emotional obstacles is inspiring, to say the least. There's almost an indefatigable sense of determination that this is their world, their future, and they will fight for it tooth and nail. How can I not be inspired by this display of courage?
My Project
As the 2020-2021 school year winds down (a school year that has been unlike any other in recent memory due to the COVID-19 pandemic), I am hopeful for the return to "normalcy" for the 2021-2022 school year, especially as vaccinations continue to occur. That is to say, I look forward to the chance to integrate more of the learning experiences missing from this year due to social distancing and COVID-19 guidelines: group work, student collaborations, and hands-on activities that inherently enhance any learning experiences, especially within English Language Arts.
In preparing for the 2021-2022 school year, I would sincerely appreciate having basic classroom supplies and materials that promote "hands-on" learning such as markers, poster paper, watercolor items, sketchbooks, pencils, modeling clay, etc.
that will allow my students to experience our English Language Arts curriculum cognitively as well as kinesthetically.
All of the sketchbooks and different types of drawing papers will allow us to visualize everything from academic concepts and terms to scenes from our literary texts throughout the year. The paintbrushes will allow our class to visualize things through drawings, illustrations, paintings, and word-art while the pencil sharpener will help sharpen our colored pencils. The modeling clays and tools will allow us to create 3-D representations of various scenes from literary texts and is just an all-around fun way to visualize our learning using 3-D creations.
Classroom basics, especially ones that promote hands-on learning, will bring back the sense of being connected to learning through kinesthetic means while collaborating with others, an aspect that has been missing in our class due to COVID-19 guidelines. Promoting social-emotional learning is also much more effective when my students are able to discuss, share, revise, edit, and work with other students while also considering their own personal ways in which they see the
