My Project

I work with an incredible group of students who are creative, smart, and eager to connect with others. However, many struggle with understanding social cues, figurative language, and sentence structure—skills essential for both academic success and daily interactions. Unlike their peers, they don’t naturally "pick up" these skills and need explicit instruction in a way that captures their attention and makes learning enjoyable.

These engaging games and activities will transform my speech therapy sessions by making language learning interactive and fun.

For example, Spot It! will help students recognize patterns in language and improve their social interactions through turn-taking and quick-thinking skills. The Super Duper Social Inferences Fun Deck will provide structured practice in understanding facial expressions and body language, helping students navigate social situations with confidence. The 100 Task Cards in a Box: Figurative Language set will allow students to explore idioms, metaphors, and similes in a hands-on way, making abstract language more concrete. By using Jenga as a reinforcement tool, students will stay engaged while practicing expressive language skills and sentence-building. These resources make learning feel like play, keeping students motivated and helping them absorb language skills more naturally.

My students range from preschoolers to sixth graders, each with unique communication challenges, including autism, language processing disorders, and social pragmatic deficits. With shorter attention spans than ever, they need dynamic, hands-on tools to support their learning. Strong communication is key to success in school, relationships, and independence. These resources will give my students the practice they need to grow into confident communicators, better able to express themselves and connect with the world around them.
