My Project

I have amazing, creative, and hard-working fourth graders. More than half of my students come from lower socioeconomic homes. Many are ESL learners, and many more qualify for special education. I have the best students, and I want to give them the best! Due to the daily obstacles they face, some find education very challenging. Many come to school without their basic needs being met, making it hard to focus on math, science, or reading. I try to think outside the box to keep my kids engaged and excited to learn.

Reading should be taught holistically.

Students are visual learners and need to see the new knowledge they read about to make sense of it. This is especially true for my language learners and students who lack exposure to different experiences. To support our unit, Empires in the Middle Ages, in our new reading curriculum, I would love to incorporate medieval props. Visuals like a knight, backdrops, shields, stained-glass art, electric candles, crowns, and a copy of the Magna Carta would greatly enhance their learning experience.
