Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

These first grade students have a love of learning. My school district is shifting towards a more student-centered, and student driven learning environment. My classroom consists of 20 first graders who come in every single morning excited about learning, and can’t wait to see what is in store for them that day. Of my 20 students, I have 7 English Language Learners in my classroom as well as 6 students who receive Special Education services.

Our classroom is a community where students respect each other, and the materials and resources in the classroom.

The effects of the current pandemic are challenging teachers to meet students needs' in very different ways. Many of my students mention that they do not have enough supplies and resources to continue their learning at home, so I want to ensure that I am giving my students the best, and most enriching experiences at school, and while learning from home, every single day. My students are so proud of their work, are extremely helpful to each other, and give 100% effort every single day.

My Project

This year, there is an increase in the use of technology to assist students' learning. My students enjoy using BOOM cards to help them independently practice their phonics skills on their computers. The students enjoy playing them and they can receive immediate feedback on their answers. This helps my students complete their work at home on their own.

Students think they are just playing a computer game, but they are actually practicing important skills that will help them with their reading and writing.

The teacherpayteacher.com credit will help me buy additional BOOM card units to support my students' growing phonics skills.
