Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students start their day by being greeted by me with a big smile. As they enter the classroom, they give me a morning high five, and repeat my classroom motto "When you enter, put your smile on." This is how we start our day on a positive note.

My students are inner city students who come from low income families in a struggling community.

They have many factors that are already affecting their education before they even enter my room. For many of them, our school is their safe haven and happy place where they have familiar, friendly, helpful, supportive faces they can rely on every day.

My Project

The nameplates, comprehension and making inferences quickies, display cards, sentence strips, books, and other resources will help my students explore author studies by looking at various books from the same author. They will also use these books to dive into another world, which often happens when they pick up a book. They get to escape reality for a short time and forget their problems. Also these books will help the students become familiar with outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. The seat bags will help because the desks we have are small and the students are unable to store many supplies inside. By using these pouches they will each have their own personal place to store their special reading book and have easy access to it throughout the school day.

Donations for this project can help improve our classroom because the classroom library that is there is very limited.

These book collections will help them explore various works from authors as well as be exposed to and learn about outstanding African American authors and illustrators who demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values, something that these students need in order to improve their self esteem and how they value themselves.
