This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of the major goals in my class every year is to instill in my students a love for reading. It is well known that students who read more are better readers, writers,and spellers. Unfortunately, my classroom library is severely lacking books.

As part of my classroom schedule, I have set a time for the students to read aloud to the class.

I have a list on the board and the students sign-up on a volunteer basis. Lately, my students have been racing to sign-up. They are a very diverse group of students with so many different interests. I hope I get these books before I run out of things for them to read!

My Project

The books that I will be adding to my classroom library, thanks to your generous donations, are chosen because they are suitable for developing readers. I need books in my library that are easy for struggling readers to access and challenging enough for my advanced readers. I have checked the Lexile scores for all my students so that I can choose texts that are academically appropriate, and I have also taken interest surveys to focus in on books that will fuel the students' desire to read.

These books will provide my students with literature that is accessible and engaging.

With a variety of books for them to choose from, students are bound to create a lasting relationship with literature and know the joy of being immersed in reading material that interests them. In addition, these books will help my students become proficient in the California State Standards for reading comprehension and literature response and analysis by acquainting them with a wider selection of text.
