Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students learn best through moving, playing, and creating. In the music classroom, my youngest students use dramatic play and movement exploration to become aware of their surroundings and warm up their bodies for music. My oldest students engage in conversations about social and historical events that have direct ties to music. All of my students use their voices and our classroom instruments to improvise and perform melodies and rhythms. Books are the perfect medium and jumping-off point for all of these activities!

Your donation to this project will help my students make important connections between music and literature, and allow them to dive deeper while creating, moving, and playing instruments.

Some of these books will help my students make connections to real life musicians and important historical events, like "Charlie Parker Played Be Bop" and "Trombone Shorty." Others will provide a foundation for students to create movements and add instruments, like "In My Heart" and "Giraffes Can't Dance." These books will help my students learn and grow in so many ways. Thank you!
