Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school located in Little Havana, Florida. Almost 100% of the students that attend this school are on free or reduced lunch. I have the privilege of having looped with my former 2nd graders and now teach a 3rd grade, self-contained gifted class.

This bunch has finally reached the point where they want to soak up every chapter book they can get their hands on!

They are learning all kinds of new things and expanding their vocabulary as they go. Since they are so eager to read, it is important for them to have access to books for the year. Unfortunately, our students do not always have the mean for buying books and our school library is currently closed due to COVID-19 protocols.

My Project

By funding this project, you are helping my students to advance their reading levels. These books are a part of the reading list for 3rd grade gifted students in our district. Many of these students are just opening up to reading for fun. Some of the students are not reading on grade level, and these books will set them on their way to reaching their goals.

These novels will open up new worlds and adventures for my students to go on.

As they read, they will be developing stronger vocabulary and practicing the many reading skills tested in 3rd grade end-of-year assessments.
